Plymouth Colony Foodways: Notes and Recipes from a 17th Century Kitchen

P.S. It’s been a year…..

My So-Called Pilgrim Self – with Turnips (natch)

….since the first Pilgrim Seasonings was posted.

And what a year! This year I’m playing the 1627 Elizabeth Warren while ANOTHER Elizabeth Warren won a Senate seat. But my personal irony is that I used to play Mary Warren, Elizabeth’s  (the 17th century one) daughter – but because we keep the year the same, their ages don’t often change much, but ours sure do.

And because so much of what I do is talk, talk, talk, my goal with this blog was to write some of it down.

And because a picture is worth a thousand words, to gather and share images.

And although I’m sitting by myself at the keyboard, I’m never alone in this endeavor. If it weren’t for the patience and tech savvy of Carolyn and Jessica, much of what has appeared here would never have made it here. If it weren’t for the the encouragements and questions from so many   who have spoken to me or sent me e-mails, I wouldn’t be thinking that a year is easy to fill, even if a page can be hard. And if you made your comments in the Comments section, we’d all know who you are……(hint hint)

Soooooo – more pumpkins and pies and sausages and random Thanksgiving-ness coming up. Starting at Christmas, a more blatant season descriptor (thank you, Julia)  starting with Quarter and Cross-Quarter Days, and the foods associated with them and then ….what would you like more of? less of? what’s the obvious that could be here that’s missing? Speak up any time, because it’s not just the food, it’s the ways.

P.S. And by the way – Thank-You!

It is so good to have blogs from Plimoth. I can’t believe it has been a year since that fabulous picture appeared in the glossy magazine dedicated to food. I am reading with great vigor the recent (and frequent – hint, hint) postings in Pilgrim Seasonings. It is almost as good as being there (not really — until we have smell-o-vision up and running).

On a personal note, it was 29 years last month that I met Patience Prence in her garden. Thanks for all the memories!

A year’s worth of words… can you give me that in ounces? :) Congrats!
